what to draw - when you don't feel like drawing
We are at the end of the week here. I have been completely exhausted with work for the past 4 days and I can't wait for tomorrow to get over as I'm running the final lap in my deadline race.
I'm still trying to keep up with my warm up sessions everyday.
I'm not trying to achieve anything with these warm ups. These drawings are raw and they are just for me. Surprisingly, they are helping me not to burn out. I also enjoy sketching whatever I like. Which brings me to the main topic of this mini blog.
What to draw when you are not creatively motivated?
Here are 3 ideas you can consider when you are stuck for inspiration.
1. Draw the first image you see in Pinterest.
This was surprisingly easy for me, as I constantly hunt for inspiration from Pinterest and it gives me the best references sometimes.
I love drawing faces, so I gravitate towards it more than any other subject.
2.Scribble aimlessly using just one color
Sometimes, putting your brush to paper is the motivation you need to bring out your best.
Set the timer for 5 minutes.
Start with one brushtroke and see where it takes you.
The challenge is to keep at it until the timer goes off.
Draw whatever comes to your mind
When I drew this page, I started filling out the page with random things that popped into my head. To this day, I'm very proud of this particular page from my sketchbook.
Draw the first word that comes to you when you open the sketchbook.
Some random topics you can immediately use for sketching:
Flower
Shoe
Sea
Mushroom
Mouse
Umbrella
These are just my quirky routine. If you have any other ideas that you follow for your daily sketching practice please comment below.
P s. have a daily sketching group right here in substack. Basically, me and 4 illustrators post our daily sketches in the chat. It is so much fun. Chatting with them everyday makes me feel like part of a community. If you wish to join, simply goto my profile and check my chats. Hope to see you there ❤️.
Until next time !
